The Simpsons Tree House of Horror 1

It does not seem as if there is anything else I can say about this long running series that hasn't already been said. As far as I can tell, there isn't much to report, but I thought I would bring my blog back to wrap up a little series that will lead up to one of my favorite holidays. Similarly, to other streaming services that are available today, Disney Plus offers a HUGE amount of content. The fact that The Simpsons series is still available on the site without too much modification to the original transfer is something I love about it. In the past, I have tended to start my Halloween watching towards the end of September, but this year I thought I should do something a little different and start with something a bit more lighthearted, and animated. In recent years, I have not watched much animation, nor have I talked about it a lot, if ever, and I have not always talked about it. In light of that, then let's dive into a couple of The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror series, shall we?

So this very first episode was the 3rd ep of the second season which aired on October 25th, 1990.

This segment begins with Bart and Lisa sitting in their tree house, telling each other scary stories as they listen to each other. In the first of the stories, we find ourselves in a haunted house with blood streaked across the walls, an opening in the wall, and an Indian burial ground hidden in their basement. Horror fans are, or at least should be very familiar with this trope, since it is a very common occurrence in the genre. As we move on to the second segment, we begin with the family grilling outside in the backyard. The Simpsons are starting to form a mushroom cloud over their neighborhood as Homer is going overboard with the gas on the grill and puts way too much gas on it. It is soon after that they are beamed up by a UFO, and they are greeted by these alien life-forms, which we will see over and over throughout the series as they greet and feed them. I also remembered this segment as part of the graphic novel collection, in one of the very first issues. The last of these is based of The Raven. The very infamous story by Edgar Alan Poe. As someone who now lives in his hometown, I can apricate it more.

So, for their first attempt at this special, I thought it was an OK introduction. There are others of course I love a whole lot more. I look forward to revisiting the others throughout the seasons, and I hope you join me in doing so as well.
